Just Ragga Gold

When Ragga music started flooding the floors of Jamaican dance halls during the 1980s, it was seen as a phenomenon of the times. Now, almost some forty years later, the little brother of Dancehall has grown up to become one of the most exuberant, energetic and electrifying Reggae sub-genres.

Calling upon the synthesized samples of Western hip-hop, Ragga saw everyone from the likes of Beenie Man and Terror Fabulous through to Nadine Sutherland and Lady Saw developing their own take on the genre.

Whether this was through deejaying, experimenting with samples or riding riddims, each artist’s unique and individual approach not only propelled the sound of Raggamuffin onto the worldwide stage, but saw it give birth to the latter, and immensely popular, cultures of Jungle and Soca.

So it comes as no surprise that, in 1992, Jet Star fed into the craze with the launch of our first ‘Just Ragga’ compilation. Kicking things off with Cobra’s ‘Live Together’, the series powered through each and every one of our scorching Ragga anthems.

In homage to this, Jet Star is proud to present ‘Just Ragga Gold’. Taking nineteen of the biggest, boldest and best tracks from across the fourteen albums, this special edition compilation is the definitive collection of not only Jet Star’s, but the world’s best Ragga.

Expect to hear the likes of Buju Banton's 'Batty Rider', Top Cat's 'Over Yu Body', the classic 'Every One Falls in Love' by Devonte featuring Tonto Metro and an exclusive continuous mix as you take a trip back to the 90s and immerse yourself in pure, Jamaican, Dancehall spirit.

So grab your boom box, crank up the decibels and get down low as ‘Just Ragga Gold’ is available to stream or download now.
